Clear Aligner Orthodontics in Knowle

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign offers a discreet way to straighten teeth using a planned sequence of transparent aligners. Each aligner is created specifically for your smile and applies controlled pressure to guide selected teeth towards their new positions.

Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign does not use permanently attached brackets or wires. The aligners sit closely over the teeth and can be removed when eating, drinking and cleaning your mouth, making treatment easier to incorporate into everyday life.

At Ascent Dental Care, we provide Invisalign for patients from Knowle with concerns such as crowded teeth, unwanted gaps and certain bite problems. Your suitability will be assessed carefully before a personalised treatment plan is prepared.

The Invisalign system is designed to:

  • Provide discreet teeth straightening without fixed metal braces
  • Allow you to remove your aligners for meals and oral hygiene
  • Fit comfortably around work, social occasions and daily routines
  • Give you a digitally planned route towards a straighter smile

Dental Monitoring with Gursh

Dr Gursh Bajwa explains how Dental Monitoring can be used to review changes remotely, check that treatment is progressing and provide guidance between appointments.

Benefits of Invisalign Aligners

  • Subtle appearance: The clear aligners are made from clear material and sit closely against your teeth, making them much less visible than conventional braces.
  • Everyday flexibility: You can briefly remove your aligners for meals, important occasions and activities where wearing them would be unsuitable.
  • Simpler cleaning: With no brackets or wires blocking access, you can continue brushing and flossing your teeth in the usual way.
  • Made for your smile: Each Invisalign aligner is individually produced from digital records of your teeth, creating a precise fit and planned tooth movement.
  • Clear treatment planning: Digital technology allows your dentist to map the intended stages of Invisalign treatment and show how your smile could change.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Your Invisalign journey begins with an assessment of your teeth, gums and bite. Digital records are then taken and used to plan how each tooth needs to move. From this plan, a sequence of custom aligners is produced specifically for you.

Every aligner represents a slightly different stage of treatment. You will wear each set for the period advised by your dentist before progressing to the next. The small changes between aligners gradually guide your teeth into better alignment. For more information, please refer to our blog post on how Invisalign works.

Although Invisalign can be removed, it only works as planned when worn consistently. Most patients are advised to wear their aligners for approximately 20–22 hours each day, removing them primarily for:

  • Eating
  • Drinking anything other than water
  • Brushing
  • Flossing

Failing to wear the aligners for the recommended time may allow your teeth to move away from their planned positions. This can delay treatment or mean that additional aligners are required.

Can teenagers and adults have Invisalign?

Invisalign may be suitable for both teenagers and adults who would prefer an alternative to fixed braces. Invisalign clear aligners can be particularly appealing to people who want to straighten their teeth without feeling that their treatment is immediately noticeable.

For teenagers, removable aligners can fit around school, social activities and sport. Adults may appreciate being able to maintain a professional appearance and remove the aligners briefly when required.

Age alone does not determine whether Invisalign is appropriate. The position of your teeth, the type of correction required and your ability to wear the aligners consistently will all be considered. Your consultation will help establish whether Invisalign can achieve the improvement you are looking for or whether another treatment would be more suitable.

Invisalign After Care

Completing your final aligner is an exciting stage, but keeping your teeth in their corrected positions is just as important. Teeth naturally have a tendency to move over time, so retainers form an essential part of your long-term care.

You may be provided with fixed or removable retainers depending on your individual needs. Removable retainers are commonly worn overnight, and you will need to continue using them for as long as you want your teeth to remain straight.

Where suitable, whitening and minor tooth recontouring may also be used to refine the overall appearance of your completed smile. Teeth whitening is only available to patients aged 18 or over and remains subject to a clinical suitability assessment.

How long does Invisalign take?

There is no single Invisalign timeframe that applies to every patient. Treatment length depends on the amount and type of movement required, whether one or both arches are being treated and how consistently the aligners are worn.

Many cases use approximately 18–36 aligners and take around 9–18 months, although simpler treatment may finish sooner and more involved cases can require longer. Your dentist will provide a more personalised estimate once your smile has been digitally assessed.

Progress appointments are usually arranged at intervals during treatment. These allow us to check that your teeth are responding as expected and provide the next sets of aligners.

Invisalign FAQ’s

Yes, Invisalign aligners have been designed with comfort in mind, enabling you to easily wear them for up to 22 hours a day. They fit snugly over the teeth and have no metal brackets or wires to irritate the skin.

You need to wear your aligners for around 22 hours a day in order for your treatment to be most effective. You can take them out for eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, and playing contact sports.

The Invisalign aligners are made from strong medical-grade thermoplastic material, which has been uniquely developed for the Invisalign system.

If you lose one of your aligners, please contact us as soon as possible for further advice. In the meantime, you can wear an aligner from your previous set to prevent your teeth from moving too far out of line. We may also advise that you move straight onto your next set of aligners, depending on your individual case.
