The development of young children’s teeth is an important stage in how their adult teeth will develop. Children as young as 7-8 could start to show signs of how their dental health into adulthood could develop (as the first of their 32 permanent teeth start to come in around 6!) and it is recommended they attend regular dental visits with our dentists to keep an eye on their progress.
We have had many years of experience in treating children and our highly trained friendly dentists will be able to identify any potential problems early on, meaning they will have less of a chance of developing any serious teeth problems as they grow up.

When should you bring your child to see an orthodontic dentist?
As your child develops they can show certain warning signs of how their teeth may be affected:
- Wonky/crooked or crowded teeth
- Early (before 4) or late (7-8) loss of their baby teeth
- Teeth that stick/protrude out
- Chewing or biting difficulty
- Thumb and finger sucking – This can be a difficult habit to ween and can continue into adult hood (causing adult teeth to stick out)
- Teeth grinding
- Enamel wear (teeth look worn, signs of discoloration to yellow)
Any of these signs could be an early indication that they may require braces at a later stage of their childhood (between age 9-14).
It is recommended that your child undergoes orthodontic treatment while they are still growing as once they have reached adulthood, treatment time can take considerably longer, and more extensive work will be needed to treat them.

I had a lingual brace fitted to my top teeth with Ascent Dental last year and I am very pleased with the results. I had some overcrowding and crookedness which has now been resolved and I feel much more confident with my smile! I would definitely recommend this type of brace if you are wishing to straighten your teeth invisibly, no one even noticed that I had a brace unless I pointed it out. The staff were very helpful and supportive during my treatment. I am now considering having my bottom teeth done with the same type of brace.
For many years I felt self conscious about my teeth which inhibits the ability to smile, so I eventually decided to get something done and approached Ascent Dental Care in Dorridge. From the moment i entered, i was met by the lovely receptionist and staff. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. They addressed all the questions and concerns i had and were able to give me recommendations. They were completely transparent and clear about what the treatment may entail. Very impressed with Gursh and his team with regard to orthodontic treatment. Very attentive, efficient and friendly service, making the whole process really quick and easy. Appointments for wire changes are so fast, meaning I’m in and out in minutes. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
Put off visiting a dentist for some years and need a host of work undertaking. Laura and her assistant Georgie were great. Very professional and compassionate about relieving my anxiety about visiting a dentist. A friendly vibe throughout all the staff creates a relaxed atmosphere I’d reccomend to anyone.
