We Offer Sedation for Nervous Patients

Sedation in Dentistry is used to calm and relax nervous patients during dental treatment. We use intravenous (IV) sedation which is administered into the patients arm. This type of sedation will put the patient at ease, ensuring the patient is not consciously aware of the dentist and treatment.

What Happens to Me
Once I Have Been
Sedated?

Treatment will start once the team is confident that you are fully relaxed and sedated. Throughout the course of treatment the sedation trained nurse and dentist will regularly monitor your pulse and breathing, whilst ensuring that you are comfortable. You will be able to understand and respond to the questions, but you may not remember much about your dental treatment for two reasons:

Sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and the patient will not consciously be bothered with what is happening around them
For a short period of time the sedatives can provide either partial or complete = memory loss – rendering your whole experience of visiting the dentist as pleasant, calm, and relaxing

As a result it would feel like you had been sleeping for the entire treatment

I recently went to Ascent Dental Care for a scheduled cleaning and mentioned I had chipped a tooth and wanted some other work done. Doctor Coughlin arranged for my tooth to be repaired and for my other work to be done immediately after my cleaning, despite the practice being busy at the time.
